Our Story

Miso Robotics was founded in 2016 by a team of Caltech engineers who saw an opportunity to bring AI and robotics into the commercial kitchen. Our first creation, Flippy, was designed to flip burgers but working alongside restaurant operators, we quickly realized the real crisis was at the fry station: the most dangerous, hardest-to-staff position in any kitchen. We pivoted to solve that problem.

In 2023, Rich Hull joined as CEO and Dr. Bachir Kharraja as CTO, shifting Miso's focus from R&D innovation to commercial deployment. Their leadership transformed Flippy from a prototype into a production-ready solution operating in restaurants nationwide. Today, with the addition of Zignyl's workforce intelligence platform, we're building the complete kitchen operating system combining physical automation with operational intelligence.

Miso's Vision

To be the leader for rapid development and deployment of reliable, industry-changing products that drive the adoption of AI in commercial kitchens and make human lives better.

Our Journey

2017

Tech Foundation

Miso Robotics is founded, establishing the core AI platform and foundational patent technology.

2018

Fund Raises

Completed first financing, successfully crowdsourcing over $130M making it a record holder in equity crowdfunding history.

2019-2020

Product Fit & Pilots

Focuses on customer partnerships to pilot Flippy, targeting the fry station as the biggest commercial opportunity.

2021–2023

Early-Stage Commercial Deployments

Flippy 2 is installed at major chains, including White Castle, Jack In the Box, and CaliExpress. Rich Hull (CEO) and Bachir Kharraja (CTO) join the leadership team in 2023.

2024-2025

Stabilization

Sole focus on re-engineering Flippy for scalability. This results in Flippy 3 (half the size, twice as fast), built and deployed in White Castle restaurants.

2026+

Expansion

Continuing to drive the adoption of AI and kitchen automation with Flippy, while actively exploring new products and strategic partnership opportunities.

INNOVATION LAB & TECHNOLOGY

While Flippy operates in kitchens today, our Innovation Lab in Los Angeles is building what comes next. Here, our team collaborates with industry leaders to develop the technologies that will transform commercial foodservice from self-healing AI to unified kitchen intelligence platforms.

Backed by partnerships with NVIDIA, Ecolab, and Amazon AWS, the lab serves as both research center and proving ground for breakthrough kitchen technologies. The insights we gain here drive continuous improvement in our production systems while laying the foundation for the complete kitchen operating system.

Have a commercial kitchen challenge that needs solving? Our Innovation Lab can help.
